First Major Bordeaux Release | Ch Palmer 2017
A much earlier than anticipated release from Bordeaux this morning, Château Palmer are the first château to release their 2017.
It is often said that the great terroirs overlook the water. Whilst the property didn’t completely escape the hardship of the April frost, the benefit of its fine location, hugging the Gironde, meant the best parcels were insulated from the frost by the river’s “thermal buffer”.
Offered ex-château below both the 2015 and 2016, and at almost 20% below last year’s release, this is the price we expected for a wine which stood out amongst its peers.
It is a sensational wine in 2017. It has the balance of more classic vintages with wonderful velvety tannins and aromatic depth that will allow for excellent ageing. Sophisticated, complex, incredibly balanced are just a few of the adjectives that could be used to describe this incredible Margaux. The tannins are so fine that they simply melt into the wine. This isn’t a powerhouse Margaux, more a wine of supreme elegance and femininity. Palmer in 2017 exudes the finest points of the appellation and can rightly be described as one of the Margaux of the vintage.
James Suckling describes the 2017 as "sexy and well-formed… with very velvety and suave tannins...full-bodied, soft and round. Extremely long and last for minutes" and bestows a fantastic 97-98 point rating (the same score as Château Margaux itself).
For lovers of Château Palmer and Margaux in general this early release is not to be missed.
Château Palmer's second wine, Alter Ego has also been released this morning at £293.00 per 6 bottles IB. Buy Alter Ego 2017
