Burgundy 2017 | Large formats from Roche de Bellene
We often get asked for large formats of mature Burgundy but are frequently unable to help as they are so difficult to find. We think the best and safest way to ensure that you have them is to buy them upon release.
Many growers bottle very little in large formats these days, such is the huge demand for normal sized (and easier to bottle) 75cls. Fortunately Nicolas Potel loves a big bottle, and makes us a special offer every year to bottle six of our favourite cuvées in magnums and jéroboams (4 bottles) prior to bottling, which we are delighted to offer herewith. However Nicolas needs to know soon, so this offer closes on Friday 15th February.
Nicolas, the dynamic owner and wine maker at Maison Roche de Bellene, has made a hugely successful range of wines in 2017. He drew comparisons to the very fine 2002 vintage but says 2017 is slightly bigger in structure with riper tannins that still feel very fresh. Like the 2002s, they are easy to taste young, but will last well. While Nicolas appreciates the pleasure of drinking youthful Pinot, he also makes sure his top cuvées have the intensity and structure to age for the long term.
