Goedhuis Recommends: May 2019
May is upon us, spring has sprung and to celebrate we bring you our recommended selection of delicious wines that are fresh, lively and enticing.
We haven’t formally offered the new vintage of Whispering Angel 2018 yet. Nonetheless, it is being consumed at an incredible rate! Its light, raspberry pink hue reveals delicate notes of cranberries and the palate is soft with a silky texture. Truly delicious, it’s impossible to not drink this swiftly.
As for whites, the Mâcon Montbellet Paul Talmard and Chablis Billaud Simon are two stalwart wines that are drinking beautifully at the moment. The Mâcon is one of our biggest sellers, and we have been a loyal follower of this domaine for many years now (certainly since my first GDH vintage in 2002!). The Chablis is taut, mineral and relatively long on the finish, especially for a Chablis ‘village’. It has that generosity of fruit so common in the 2016 vintage that makes it particularly more-ish. It’s the perfect bottle for slightly smarter everyday drinking.
Château Beaumont 2014 isn’t a rich, full-bodied claret for the winter months but rather a medium-bodied wine built on elegance and finesse. This is a brilliant lunch time Bordeaux that offers superb value at £15.67/bottle on the table. Of course, it is very hard for me to recommend these monthly suggestions without mentioning a Pinot Noir. We are continually tasting and evaluating drinking dates for our red Burgundies and the 2013 Volnay Vieilles Vignes from Roche de Bellene is drinking magnificently now. At £24.50/bottle, it remains a bargain! Top tip.
Hope you enjoy!
