Goedhuis recommends: March 2020

Spring is upon us and to mark the end of what has been a lengthy and fairly bleak winter we are delighted to announce the arrival of the new 2019 vintage of Chateau St Baillon Côtes de Provence Rosé. It is positively bursting with vitality, energy and freshness. It seems incredible that my first vintage selling this wonderful rosé was 2002!

St Baillon rosé lovers will adore this cuvée. It is very light salmon-pink in colour and the palate is so delicate and fresh. ‘Incredibly moreish’ are two words that immediately spring to mind. Stalwart supporters of St Baillon, who have enjoyed it over the summer every year for the past two decades, know that it remains one the most delicious and great value rosés in the market today. I am delighted to confirm a bottle today costs no more than £11.00 on the table. An absolute bargain!

We also have an exciting new Italian white wine that has just arrived and will feature on our Spring Selection List. We are constantly having conversations with clients seeking an alternative to white Burgundy and Sancerre. They want a crisp, refreshing, yet at the same time interesting, wine to drink and delight the senses after a long day at work.  This 100% Pinot Bianco Finado 2018 is from Cantina Andriano in the Alto-Adige region of Northern Italy. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this has pretty floral aromatics with notes of white stone fruits and pear. The palate is exquisitely vibrant with a taut and bright mineral core of juicy fruit. I can only describe this wine as absolutely delicious. I urge you to give it a go and add a case of six bottles to your next wine delivery.

Santenay is a region in Burgundy located directly to the south of Chassagne Montrachet. Justin Girardin’s Santenay Blanc Les Terrasses de Bievaux is arguably the best white Burgundy we sell under £20 per bottle and it certainly deserves your full attention. Justin is a dynamic young grower who specialises in creating wines that speak of their terroir. These vines are on a very steep slope 350 metres above sea level. The resultant wine is brilliantly pure with impressively concentrated ripe peachy stone fruit. 2017 is a knockout vintage for white Burgundy. This is highly recommended.

We only list one wine from the Beaujolais region and it is an under-the-radar gem of a wine that has a huge following amongst our clients. This is no ordinary Fleurie. Clos de la Roilette is one of the top domaines in the region, located to the very north east of Fleurie, on the border with Moulin à Vent. The style of the wine is relatively powerful, with much darker fruit and more intensity than normally associated with Fleurie. This 2018 delicious cuvée can age for years to come, or the cork can be popped now to reveal wonderful purity, glossy concentrated fruit and fabulous freshness. It will have you reaching for the glass again and again. Lovers of good red Burgundy should step outside the proverbial box and give this wine a try. I am sure you will be impressed.
