An unmissable trio of Pommards

De Courcel's Perfectly Balanced 2016s

We have only just received our confirmed allocation from Domaine de Courcel and are now delighted to be able to offer these wines which are on absolutely tip top form in 2016.

They garnered glowing reviews from Matthew Jukes last month. Rather than an exhaustive analysis of all wines, he wrote up a daily report of the En Primeur tastings only including what he described as "unmissable wines, focussing on my QP (Qualité Prix) favourites" and de Courcel made the cut.

He commented:

"The final Domaine to catch my eye, this time with every one of its wines, was de Courcel.

2016 Pommard, Les Vaumuriens, Domaine de Courcel (£285 per 6 IB) was simply stunning...  In 2016 they have achieved perfect balance.  While Les Vaumuriens is the great value option, I cannot let the other two big wines pass without a mention.

2016 Pommard, 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots, Domaine de Courcel (£425 per 6 IB) was sensational with intrigue, passion and bravado already on display.

Pommard, 1er Cru Les Rugiens, Domaine de Courcel (£525 per 6 IB) soared above all other Côte de Beaune reds on day one with staggering structure and balance.  It is a wine to be greatly admired in this vintage.
"

We shared his enthusiasm when tasting, and can highly recommend these three excellent Pommards. Our allocations are limited and the wines are offered subject to availability.

Near the centre of Pommard, this enclosed monopole has produced a very bright style. Strong in dark fruits with hints of liquorice and spice, the overriding sensation is one of sweet fruit flavours, ripe and full, with a broad tannic density. Beautifully complete and very long.

One of the very best lieux dits in the village, sitting above the great Rugiens vineyard. A powerfully structured village cuvée, representing the classical brooding masculinity of Pommard. With big, mature, gamey, dark fruit flavours, the wine has a full tannic structure, with all the fruit and energy to support; it will age very well.
