Ch La Conseillante Pomerol 2017

In our opinion Pomerol is the star performing appellation of the Right Bank in 2017.

La Conseillante's 12 hectares are in the heart of the Pomerol plateau next to Evangile, Vieux Château Certan and Pétrus. In recent vintages they have produced stellar wines, earning a well-deserved place among the most celebrated and sought-after châteaux of this great appellation.

The classically styled 2017 La Conseillante (85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc) shows impressive freshness and elegance. The wine is perfectly weighted with incredible balance, sinuous tannins and graceful length, and will age beautifully over the next 20 years.

La Conseillante continues its hot streak with this stunning 2017 and garners some of the highest scores and critical acclaim of the vintage. Neal Martin scores 93-95 and comments, “It is less powerful than the 2016 at this stage but it is clearly a very well crafted, almost sensual Pomerol by winemaker Marielle Cazaux.” The Wine Advocate awards 95-97 points and comments, “This is an arrestingly beautiful expression of this vintage”, while Matthew Jukes gives it a massive 19+.

      Tasting Notes

      Goedhuis, April 2018, Score: 95-97

This wine is a showstopper. Marielle Cazaux continues her success at this estate, which has confirmed its reputation as a star of the Right Bank with a string of excellent recent vintages. This blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc has a heightened aromatic drama, with hints of eucalyptus, mint and bursting red berries. Gentle extraction has yielded sinuous tannins and graceful length. Its perfumed elegance sets it apart from its peers. Standing ovation.
