Burgundy 2017 En Primeur | Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet
The second of our 2017 Côte de Beaune releases are the brilliant whites of our dear friend Jean-Philippe.
This is a such a consummate range, that offer an excellent price:quality ratio from his Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes, through the lieux dits Meursaults, to his premier cru Puligny Montrachet. Sarah Marsh MW comments in her Burgundy Briefing 2017 Report, “Domaine wines of a high standard as usual.”
Jean-Philippe was just 20 when his father handed down the family’s sharecropping arrangements in the village of Meursault, and in the intervening 37 years Jean-Philippe has lost none of his enthusiasm nor his thirst for knowledge. Jean-Philippe believes the origins of great wine are first and foremost in the vineyard. His motto is to respect the soil and the vine, treating only when necessary. Earlier picking dates deliver a stunning mineral freshness. In the winery he operates a gentle handling process. Large casks and limited new oak mean the wines possess superb fruit content.
These 2017s highlight the superb quality consistently achieved at Domaine Fichet. They will be drinking well very soon after shipping, but also have the substance to develop beautifully over the following 5+ years.
