A Magnificent Italian Collection | Great wines from Piedmont and Tuscany
We are delighted to offer this superb collection of top Italian estates. Featuring a wide range of wines from Italy's most renowned regions, it is a roll call of the best producers: Gaja, Bruno Giacosa, Roagna, Giacomo Conterno, Elio Altare, Cappellano, Elio Grasso, Vietti, Bartolo Mascarelo, Poggio di Sotto, Salvioni, San Guido, Ornellaia...the list goes on...
From Piedmont, the myriad vineyards and producers are amply represented with particular emphasis on the wines from legends Gaja and Giacosa, not to overlook the simple stunning value wines from Produttori del Barbaresco and the resurgent Roagna, of which Antonio Galloni stated:
"Quality has never been higher here, and as I have written before, Luca Roagna is one of Piedmont's most promising young producers...Crichët Pajé makes an eloquent case for being the Monfortino of Barbaresco..."
In Barolo, the highly sought-after wines of Vietti and Elio Grasso can be found alongside the individual brilliance of Bartolo Mascarello and Cappellano, and again not to overlook the masterful wines of Giacomo Conterno.
From Montalcino our unabashed affection for the area is borne out by a range of vintages and producers including Sesti, Poggio di Sotto and the great Salvioni, from whom the unmissable 2013 Brunello prompted Ian D'Agata to comment, "...The lively, perfumed nose combines red cherry, blueberry, minerals and flinty aromas. Rich and densely packed, showing captivating peppery lift to the very ripe red and blue fruit flavours...Knockout Brunello from one of the quality leaders of Montalcino (and Italy, for that matter)."
From Bolgheri there are various vintages of Sassicaia including some spectacular large formats, including an imperial of 2004 and double magnums of 2009. There are also the last few magnums of 2015 Grattamacco and double magnums of 2016 Redigaffi and Saffredi; wines from two of the possibly greatest Tuscan vintages.
With demand for top end Italian wines as strong as ever and quality never higher, this is an unmissable opportunity, though with limited quantities be quick to ensure you secure yourself a case or two.
The wines are all lying in bond (unless otherwise stated) at Octavian Corsham, and are offered subject to availability. Free UK delivery on orders over £300, otherwise £18.
