  • Goedhuis, December 2014

Suchots is one of Vosne’s more masculine 1er Crus. This 2013 has all the power and weight one expects from this fine 1er Cru; big and fully structured it has excellent aging potential.

  • Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 92-94

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots, which comes from the domains century-old vines on more clayey soil than the Beaumonts, has a pixilated bouquet with vibrant red currant and cranberry scents, more floral than the aforementioned premier cru. The palate is medium-bodied with supple juicy tannins, a fine line of acidity and a tangy marmalade-tinged finish that coats the mouth in spicy red fruit. There is just lovely build to this Suchots that is streets ahead of the 2012. Drink: 2017 - 2035

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 90-93

Here the nose is slightly riper than that of the Beaux Monts but otherwise largely similar. There is a bit more volume if less minerality to the generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of structure-buffering dry extract, all wrapped in a highly persistent and better balanced finale. Textbook Suchots that should amply reward 7 to 10 years of cellar time. Drink 2021+

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
