  • Goedhuis, December 2014

A little muted on the nose, but in the palate it is hugely pleasing, with sweet raspberry flavours aided by notes of cocoa and cinnamon spice. With a balance between crisp fresh currant fruits and sweetness, the tannins are rounded and ripe giving lasting flavours on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 91-93

The 2013 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru les Brûlées has a taut and slightly reticent nose at first, reluctantly opening with dark cherries and wild strawberry scents, the mineral/stony notes developing soon after. The palate is well balanced with lithe ripe strawberry and red cherry notes the belie that fine structure underneath. Nicely focused, I just would have liked a little more backbone toward the finish but still the terroir is articulated with great clarity and it may merit a higher evaluation once in bottle. Drink: 2017 - 2035

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 91-93

A classic Vosne nose is replete with a plethora of spice nuances along with black pinot fruit, lilac and soft wood hints. The vibrant and distinctly mineral-driven medium weight flavors are sleekly muscular yet they also possess a silky and refined mouth feel before culminating in a beautifully complex, well-balanced and wonderfully persistent finish. This is built-to-age and will need 12 to 15 years of bottle age to soften the firm tannic spine. Drink 2025+

  • Sarah Marsh, November 2014, Score: 18.2

Supple tannin, juicy, full and ripe; a rounded palate; sunny flavoured and in the aromatics, yet light-bodied. A real sensation of ripeness, without weight; pure and streamed on the finish. It has charm and allure…with an enticing aromatic finish. Score 18.2 From 2019

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
