Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, May 2020
A very gracious Pouilly Fumé with attractive crushed blackcurrant, leaf aromas and a hint of exotic fruit. In the palate this is a graceful wine, pure and rounded in style, with hints of bright fresh currants. Characteristically refreshing on the finish, fine, long and beautifully appealing.
Producer
Michel Redde et Fils, La Moynerie

The Redde family can trace their roots in Pouilly Fumé’s vinous history back to 1630. In the mid-20th century Michel Redde created the domaine ‘La Moynerie’, and his grandsons now oversee the impressive gravity cellar which produces an astonishing array of single vineyard cuvées from the flint and limestone soils around Pouilly-sur-Loire, on the banks of the Cher River facing across to Sancerre. The winemaking is steered by the energetic Sébastien Redde, who takes great pride in all his wines, from the simple pleasures of the Petit Fumé (a young vine cuvée) up to the majesty of ‘Marjorum’ which can age beautifully over 20 years. These are Sauvignon Blancs of really dynamic expression.
Region
Pouilly Fumé
Perched on the opposite bank of the Loire to Sancerre, the limestone and clay slopes peppered with flint of Pouilly Fume have been home to grape growing and wine production since before the Roman era. Made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc, these often excellent wines are characterised by a note of gunflint and a certain creamy richness in addition to the classic zesty herbacious flavours of the grape variety.
