Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, December 2012
Open forward honeyed fruit aromas. This is a delicious style of wine full of creamy buttery flavours. A dense and concentrated wine which reflects almost Grand Cru status levels of complexity and length. Very, very good.

Burghound, June 2013,
Score: 92-94A notably elegant nose of ripe and pure white and yellow orchard fruit, lemon zest, pain grillé and a hint of spice marries into rich, generous and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess ample dry extract and excellent mid-palate concentration. There is a firm but ripe acid spine that shapes and supports the palate staining and perfumed finish. While not destined to be one of the genuinely great examples of Sauzet Combettes, this is still a stunner of a 1er. Sweet Spot. Outstanding. Drink 2019+

Domaine Etienne Sauzet

Etienne Sauzet is one of the great estates of Puligny Montrachet, taking its name from current incumbent Emilie Riffault's great grandfather who founded this domaine in the early 1900s. It boasts 15 hecatres of vineyards, comprising four white grands crus in Puligny and Chassagne and nine premiers crus. Today, under Emilie and husband Benoit's direction, their owned vineyards are fully biodynamic and they are one of the flag bearers for the appellation of Puligny.
Region
Puligny-Montrachet
Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
