Offers | Goedhuis Recommends: November 2020

The clocks have gone back, the winter nights are drawing in and, with a second lockdown on the way, we may find ourselves spending more and more time in our homes focusing on creating a culinary masterpiece, or two, all of which will need the perfect wine to accompany, of course!

This week we tasted a range of Champagnes, white and red wines from our extensive list and chose the following for our November Recommendations - a wonderful selection of delicious wines, all are drinking superbly now and available for immediate delivery.

Champagne Paul Goerg Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs NV (£28.50 per bottle, £171.00 per 6 bottles)
Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes. This is an outstanding Blanc de Blancs from the 1er Cru vineyards of Vertus.
At half the cost of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc (and certainly not half the wine), this an exceptionally classy Champagne that continues to be one of our very best sellers.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano Le Calcinaie 2019 (£13.50 per bottle, £162.00 per 12 bottles)
Our certified organic Vernaccia, from the hill-top town of San Gimignano, put quite simply is ‘pure Tuscan sunshine in a glass’. The nose is aromatic, with citrus and floral notes leaping from the glass. The palate is precise, clean and fresh, with the perfect amount of acidity to keep one coming back for another sip. This is highly recommended for an every-day house wine and would make the perfect aperitif.

Albariño Rías Baixas Bodegas Lagar de Cervera 2019 (£16.00 per bottle, £192.00 per 12 bottles)
We have now bought this cuvée for the third year in a row and the fanbase is building fast. From the cooler region of Rías Baixas in the north west of Spain, this deliciously versatile Albarino will pair brilliantly with a roast chicken, or almost any fish dish. The palate has a pleasing weight that’s balanced by a refreshing smack of acidity and a lingering mineral finish. For those who want something different, we urge you to try this wonderfully fresh and crisp Albarino.

Chassagne Montrachet Bruno Colin 2018 (£42.48 per bottle, £509.74 per 12 bottles)
Bruno Colin hails from the top hierarchy of Burgundy. His father Michel Colin, of Domaine Colin-Deleger retired in 2004 and left his esteemed vineyards to his two sons Bruno and Philippe. His wines combine fantastic mid-palate minerality and a luxurious fruit component. His 2018 ‘village’ Chassagne is rich and nutty, with a lemony freshness that quite simply urges another sip. Utterly delicious and highly recommended.

Chateau Mille Anges Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux 2016 (£13.00 per bottle, £78.00 per 6 bottles)
A Chateau we have been buying for well over a decade and is the source of untold Bordeaux pleasure at a very reasonable price point. 2016 is arguably their finest vintage to date, a vintage that saw Neal Martin of Vinous.com hail as the ‘dogs bollocks’. The wine is rich and concentrated and with thirty minutes in the decanter, it really opens up to reveal a seductive palate of pure and silky dark berry fruits.

We love the wines from this great biodynamic estate in the heart of Montalcino. The 2017 Rosso is in quite simply drinking beautifully and in a great place right now. The red and dark berry fruits are incredibly bright and pure, with excellent concentration and in our view you won’t find a better Rosso at this price point. This is a mini-Brunello through and through. Highly recommended.

Chateau Meyney Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel St Estèphe 2015 (£33.33 per bottle, £200.00 per 6 bottles)
Chateau Meyney Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel St Estèphe 2015 Magnums (£70.00 per magnum, £420.00 per 6)
Positioned next to neighbouring Chateau Montrose, this Cru Bourgeois over the past decade has been making better and better wines, to the extent that when Neal Martin tasted this vintage blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting, he thought this was initially Chateau Montrose! The wine is rich, concentrated and just now beginning to show some real complexity. If you are after a high-class claret at a sensible price, we really cannot recommend the 2015 vintage more highly. It is also packed in wooden cases of 6 bottles that do make the perfect gift…
