Offers | Domaine Guiberteau - A jewel from the Loire

The great winemaking regions and winemakers known to all wine-lovers in the world. If you love Bordeaux, surely you know Lafite and Latour? If your passion is Burgundy then naturally you’re familiar with Armand Rousseau and Domaine de la Romanee Conti. However, the Loire? There are probably not as many names that come to mind but one you need to know – Domaine Guiberteau.

Domaine Guiberteau was founded in the early 20th Century by Clément Manguin, the great-grandfather of the current winemaker, Romain. He was mentored by the legendary Nady Foucault of Clos Rougeard fame, and is also a very good friend of Benjamin Dagueneau, of Silex fame.

The estate is divided equally between his Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc grapes and it is his whites which we are excited to present to you today. The complexity, minerality and freshness of the Guiberteau Chenin Blancs make them some of the best-value bottles available from France. The 2014 and 2015 can both be approached now but the 2016, 17 and 18 would benefit from a few more years to develop in bottle.

Some thoughts from Chris Kissack, the Wine Doctor There is no perfect domaine... but when Romain gets it right he can, in fact, hit the bull's-eye. The white wines are pure, limpid, minerally and bracing, softening with time, but always showing a delicate Chenin ripeness... Now is the time to buy Romain's wines, while they offer not just great drinking pleasure, but also relative value.”

Bettane & Desseauve Guide "The whites have obvious class and demonstrate all the potential for white-wine production in Saumur... This is a departure for the real or supposed spirit of Saumur, with a quality of fruit that puts them alongside the greatest wine in France, be they from Burgundy, the Languedoc or Bordeaux."
