Offers | Boekenhoutskloof's 2019 New Releases

Neal Martin said it best: “South Africa is frankly unbeatable in terms of quality-to-price ratio”. We are delighted to bring you an offer from one of the region's greatest: the newly released 2019s from Boekenhoutskloof.

Located in a remote corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, Boekenhoutskloof is a producer to know; the wines are seriously good and their quality unrivalled. Their 2019s have impressed not just us, but also the leading critics, including Neal Martin, Tim Atkin MW and Platter’s Wine Guide.

We are so pleased to offer an old vine Sémillon, a classic Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon and a beautifully perfumed Syrah. We are also offering a few cases of the 2018 Noble Late Harvest, a celestial sweet wine made in the mould of a Sauternes. An elegant, restrained nose of lime flower, lanolin and flint with some peachy undertones. There is a subtle waxiness on the palate which gives depth to the stone fruits and blossom and a soothing, yet taut acidity holds everything in place perfectly. This is so delicately oaked and the use of some concrete eggs in maturation gives a sumptuous, leesy richness. The finish is complex, limey and very long. Drink 2022-2028.

    • Neal Martin, November 21, Score: 93

The 2019 Sémillon, one of my favorite cuvées from this producer, has a wonderful bouquet of peach skin and orange blossom scents, all extremely well defined. The balanced palate offers superb concentration on the entry, flavors of praline mixed with citrus fruit and almond, and an almost resinous note toward the finish. It’s tempting to drink this now, but it deserves 3–5 years in bottle. Drink 2024-2040.

    • Tim Atkin, November 21, Score: 96

This world-class Semillon combines fruit from three sites in Franschhoek, planted in 1902, 1936 and 1942. Three per cent Muscat adds a touch of orange marmalade to the leesy, flinty, lanolin and struck match palate. Less oaky than in the past and all the better for it. Long and complex. 2022-2029.

    • Platter's Wine Guide, November 21, Score: 94

From old vineyards (some date to 1902), concentrated, flavour-packed 2019 shows naartjies, lime zest, quince supported by toasty oak (70% new neutral, 30% ‘egg’ amphora component). Waxy texture, perfume hint from 3% muscat d’Alexandrie. Will get better better.

    • Goedhuis, January 2022

This gorgeous, cellar worthy wine has a dark intensity thanks to the alluring black fruit nestled amongst dried herbs, violet and mineral undertones. Delicious charcoal and espresso melt into the rich tannins which are complemented by a leafy freshness. Beautifully complex and very fine. Drink 2024-2034

    • Neal Martin, November 21, Score: 93

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch has a little more delineation and precision than its Franschhoek counterpart, offering ebullient blackberry and briar mixed with a touch of dark chocolate. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with better structure and good density and grip toward the dark-chocolate- and espresso-tinged finish. A classy and quite sophisticated Cabernet. Drink 2023-2040.

    • Tim Atkin, November 21, Score: 96

This superb, ageworthy cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Cabernet Franc hails from three vineyards on the Helderberg and one in the Polkadraai Hils. Violet and thyme aromas lead into a structured palate of cassis and dried herbs, with intense tannins and fine 75% new wood. 2023-2035.

    • Platter's Wine Guide, November 21, Score: 97

Power precision combine in stellar 2019. Ripe black cherry fruit with lifted perfume notes (dab cab franc, as Franschhoek sibling), fine integrated tannins fresh, lithe appeal. 75% new French oak adds to muscular richness completing very fine wine. 5 parcels in Helderberg, Polkadraai Faure.
