Offers | Château de Beaucastel 2020
It is safe to say that the Perrins have nailed the 2020 vintage: the wines show impeccable balance across the board, with a stand-out seam of freshness. Marc Perrin summarises the vintage as “one of the all-time classics; the wines have superb intensity, wonderful poise, finesse and elegance”. When asked to compare 2020 to other vintages, Marc referenced the greats of 1990 and 2010, noting that the wines will be enjoyable in their youth as well as with age.2020 Côtes du Rhône Rouge Coudoulet de Beaucastel Perrin - 12x75cl

The 2020 Coudoulet is beautifully scented with bright bountiful fruit streaked with liquorice and dried herbs. The forest fruits that sweep across the palate are crystal clear, revealing black cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and plum mixed with sweet spice, white pepper and garrigue. The tannins are nimble yet plump and the line of vibrant acidity that flows throughout keeps the palate playful. Energetic and elegant with prolonged freshness.

A year-in, year-out winner, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet De Beaucastel offers outstanding quality as well as classic notes of darker fruits, roasted herbs, truffly earth, and some meaty, peppery, gamey nuances. With wonderful purity of fruit, ripe tannins, and a balanced, elegant mouthfeel, it will have over a decade of longevity.

40% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault – Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in oak to avoid reduction, Cinsault and Grenache in concrete tanks. Aged 6 months in foudres. Cask sample. Immediately more scented than some of the intense Famille Perrin range, with fragrant black-cherry fruit and a light herbal quality, as if there were some whole bunch (though I don't think there was). A hint of violets. On the palate, refined tannins, juicy, fresh, moreish. Drink 2023-2028.

This gorgeous Châteuneuf du Pape shows such beautiful clarity, the nose chiming with pristine raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant fruit, with notes of rosemary, liquorice and minerals. Spice-clove flavours on the palate are woven gently into the juicy, elegant, soaked fruit and the firm yet slinky tannins dissipate so softly. It all flows beautifully towards a long, fresh finish.

Jeb Dunnuck, November 2021, Score: 93-95
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape has lots of Mourvèdre character in its bright red and blue fruits as well as spice, pepper, and assorted meaty nuances. With medium to full-bodied richness on the palate, it shows the fresh, elegant, yet still nicely concentrated style of the vintage and is unquestionably another impressive, classic vintage for this cuvée. It should offer some pleasure in its youth as well as evolve for 20+ years in cold cellars.

30% Grenache, 30% Mourve`dre, 15% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 10% Vaccare`se, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardin, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and 5% Cinsault. Aged in foudres for 12 months. Cask sample. Deep crimson. Fabulously aromatic with an intense and entwined combination of dark-red fruits, peony (which I more often associate with the northern Rhône), and a light sweetness of oak spice. Also a quiet, dark mineral/dusty quality that reins in all that lovely fruit. Compact but succulent, refined tannins. Already quite complex and a lot more to come. Fresh, elegant finish. Embryonically impressive. Drink 2025-2035.
