Offer | Grattamacco's Extraordinary 2020s

Founded in 1977, Grattamacco is Bolgheri’s second oldest estate after Sassicaia producers Tenuta San Guido. Since acquiring the property in 2002, owners Claudio Tipa and Maria Iris have built on the huge potential of the estate, investing heavily in the winery, vineyards and personnel. The subsequent surge in quality and renown has come as no surprise. 2020 is a spectacular year across Tuscany and the second in a trilogy of extremely fine vintages, where the wines are characterised by terrific depth, gorgeous purity of fruit and fully ripe tannins. We are delighted to introduce Grattamacco’s delicious 2020 reds: 2020 Bolgheri Rosso, 2020 L’Alberello and 2020 Grattamacco.

  • Goedhuis, October 2021

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 10% Sangiovese. With its core of dark cherry, plum and blackcurrant, the Bolgheri Rosso, bearing many of the hallmarks of the Grattamacco, is also elegant and full with fresh balsamic notes that come from the Sangiovese grape. Dense and powerful wine with ripe tannins, this juicy and rich 2020 is a really lovely example and certainly punches way above its ‘entry level’ status.

  • Wine Advocate, August 2023, Score: 92

The Grattamacco 2020 Bolgheri Rosso shows nice elegance over a tight and streamlined body. It is redolent of black fruit, plum and cherry with mild shadings of spice at the back (it sees a brief eight months in mostly neutral oak). The vineyards are located from 100 to 200 meters above sea level with quartz sandstone soils mixed with white clays, marly limestone, flysch and red sands.

  • Goedhuis, August 2023

L’Alberello has truly come of age this year. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc, this cool, suave and sophisticated Super Tuscan exudes a fine array of dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit with subtle hints of Mediterranean herb and menthol that give it a true Bolgheri signature.

  • Wine Advocate, August 2023, Score: 94-96

This is a preview look at the 2020 Bolgheri Superiore l'Alberello tasted at the winery. This wine is very different from the estate's flagship Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco. For one, the vines are planted according to the alberello or "bush" training system in a special symmetrical grid so that each plant enjoys the same exposure. The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc. This unfinished vintage shows a strong mineral or salty signature with earth, licorice, dried mint and wet clay. Drink now-2030.
