  A more alluring style than the Cuvée des Grives with enticing red cherry fruits aromas. In the palate it is full of vibrance and life, with an almost sweet spiciness. There is excellent depth here and a brooding personality. In essence, this is quite Chambollesque in character but with attitude!

  Here the expressive nose offers up a pretty array of violet, pomegranate and red cherry liqueur trimmed in a hint of earth. There is again very good richness to the more finely detailed and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess better complexity and length on the similarly rustic, indeed even slightly raspy, finish.   Aromas of cherries and cassis mingling with hints of orange rind, spices and peonies introduce the 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and lively wine that's deep and structured, with an ample core of fruit and plenty of powdery tannin. Nicely balanced in the broader-shouldered register of the vintage at this address, this will blossom with bottle age.

  Cuvée Les Alouettes is one of four wines that Domaine Ponsot sources from its holdings in Monts Luisants, sourced from a parcel with more top soil in the middle of the slope. Showing subtle reduction and commendable freshness for a wine with 14% alcohol, it's chalky, bright and well-balanced, with a core of red cherry fruit and tany, supporting acidity.

Domaine Ponsot

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations.
