Louis Jadot Beaune Celebration 2018 | Bottles, magnums & jeroboams

This very special Beaune 1er Cru cuvée from Maison Louis Jadot is crafted from 16 different climats in the appellation. It is unusual to find red Burgundy of this quality offering such exceptional value for money, and it is also offered in some very grand large formats. Described by Neal Martin as “disarmingly seductive... utterly delicious” with a “smooth and silky texture" this is a perfect way to celebrate the festive season.

First made in 2009 to celebrate Jadot’s 150th anniversary, it became tradition to only make this cuvée in outstanding vintages .The grapes come from Louis Jadot’s own vineyards and the 2018 is a blend of 16 Beaune Premier Cru climats, all of which are detailed on the label. This is a beautiful wine brimming with crunchy red fruits: fresh strawberry, raspberry, sour cherry, and cranberry mingle with a refreshing leafiness and earthiness. On the palate, juicy acidity and suave tannins give this structure to age but the innate balance and freshness means it is already so enjoyable today. A true joy in the glass.

  • Neal Martin, August 2021, Score: 92

The 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Célébration offers crunchy red berry fruit on the nose, crushed strawberry mingling with raspberry preserve and cranberry. A light vanilla scent emerges from the background. It is all disarmingly seductive (even more so the following day). The palate is medium-bodied with a very smooth and silky texture. Tart red cherries and crushed strawberry on the entry, modest depth, cashmere in texture and more sumptuous than previous iterations, unsurprising given the style of the 2018 vintage. Even if the 2018 Célébration does not quite “kick on” towards the finish, it is still utterly delicious. Drink 2022-2040.

  • Allen Meadows, August 2021, Score: 91

This is definitely a child of its vintage as the black cherry, cassis and warm earth suffused nose is quite ripe yet not roasted or lacking in freshness. The opulently rich medium-bodied flavors possess a decidedly suave, round and velvet-textured texture with enough underlying acidity to avoid any sense of undue weight on the enveloping finish that begins to tighten up as it sits on the palate. This is the point where you begin to notice the underlying structure as the richness of the mid-palate essentially hides them. The 2018 Célébration is one of those wines that could easily be enjoyed now (serve it on the cooler side) or held for up to a decade with good results. Outstanding.

  • WK, August 2021, Score: 92+

Opening in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, cherries and plums framed by a deft application of toasty new oak, the 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Célébration (Maison Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit structured around rich tannins and succulent acids. It's a hearty, generous wine that should evolve nicely in the cellar. As usual, it's a blend of more than a dozen Beaune premiers crus. Drink 2023-2040.

  • Goedhuis, December 2016

Due to the unusually small but high quality vintage in 2012 Maison Louis Jadot decided to blend a selection of their best premiers crus in Beaune to create this prestige cuvée. It reflects the very essence of the Beaun appellation. The list of crus detailed on the label and read like the who's who of Beaune, Le Clos des Ursules, Les Theuron, Les Cents Vignes, Les Greves, Les Bressandes etc. This very classical vintage is ideally suited to such an assemblage of vineyards. A very fine wine, beautifully aromatic, full of vibrant red cherry fruits, there is a tannic structure wonderfully supported by an inherent freshness. This wine epitomises the appellation, which is one of the most underrated in the Côte d'Or. High class in every way.

  • Goedhuis, June 2014, Score: 90-93

Sweet rich dark berry fruits aroma. A beautiful example of the perfumed floral fruits that typifies the finest wines from the vineyards surrounding Beaune. Rich and juicy in the palate with soft ripe velvety tannins. A really rewarding wine that will give huge pleasure.

  • Antonio Galloni, June 2014, Score: 92-94

Building off the considerable success of their 2009 Beaune 150th Anniversary 1er Cru, Jadot has decided to make the wine again in top years. One of the highlights in this range, the 2012 boasts stunning power, depth and harmony. The lifted aromatics recall the Ursules, but here the fruit possesses more volume and creaminess. An explosive, layered finish rounds things out in style. Some of the parcels in the blend are Avaux, Cent Vignes, Pertuisots, Vignes Franches, Perrières, Toussaints and Chouacheux.

  • Burghound, April 2015, Score: 92

A subtle touch of wood sets off ripe and relatively elegant notes of earth, dark cherry and spice. The mid-palate is dense, serious and powerful with plenty of mouth coating sap that helps to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the moderately austere, backward and built-to-age finale. While this is presently backward it should be approachable after 6 to 8 years of bottle age though note that it should live for a very long time. For readers having a child or grandchild in 2012 this would be a good choice to buy in quantity at a price that won't break the bank. Outstanding. Drink 2024+
