Goedhuis, December 2014
With only 2 casks, I felt extraordinarily privileged to be able to taste this wine not just once but twice! Jet black in colour, this is a wine which concentrates on richness and depth, with fine flavours of liquorice, toffee and blackcurrants. Layered and full with huge charm and a long silky finish.

Neal Martin, December 2014,
Score: 93-95The 2013 Musigny Grand Cru, which as usual comprises just two barrels this year, has an endearing boysenberry, raspberry preserve and forest-floor-scented nose (also a little reduction.) The palate is underpinned by fine tannins and a keen line of acidity, gradually building to a harmonious finish whereby the oak is deftly interwoven. This is an assured, elegant Musigny in the making, not dissimilar in style to the Musigny from Domaine de la Vougeraie. Drink: 2018 - 2035

Burghound, JANUARY 2015,
Score: 93-95(from a .12 ha parcel). This is also quite restrained with its brooding array of earthy red cherry and plum liqueur aromas that display top notes of violet and spice hints. Here too there is plenty of size, weight and power to the solidly mineral-driven medium-bodied plus flavors that are shaped by fine tannins that contribute to the refined mouth feel of the very firmly structured and beautifully complex finish. This is also exceptionally promising but definitely for the patient. Drink 2028+

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Region
Le Musigny
Le Musigny is a red Grand Cru vineyard based in Burgundy’s Chambolle Musigny village in the Côte de Nuits. Le Musigny is situated between the scrubland at the top of the slope and the upper section of Clos de Vougeot on well-draining limestone soil. The wines of Le Musigny are some of the best in Burgundy on a par with those of Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
