  • Goedhuis, Score: August 2022

Made using 100% Garganega, a grape considered to be one of Italy’s greatest, the 2021 Soave from Tamellini is a charmingly easy-going style of white. A delicately aromatic profile of toasted almonds and orange zest, the palate is laid back with citrus notes enveloped by mouth-watering acidity. The latest vintage goes to show that, when it comes to white wine, Soave still offers some of the best value. Try with Spaghetti alle vongole.

Winemaker Nic blends some very old bush vine Chenin Blanc with younger vines to make this utterly delicious 2022. A wonderful crispness and tingling energy underlie a sumptuous old vine richness. Lime skin, pink grapefruit and tangerine mix with silky white peach, quince and apricot. Jasmine and lily-tinged, there is a smoky, salty, mineral edge to this very complex wine reminiscent of crushed oyster shell thanks to its ancient granite terroir. Whole bunch pressed and fermented in old oak barrels and Stockinger foudres, this 2022 has wonderful texture and pleasing bite. There is a vibrancy that courses through onto the long, mineral finish, the perfect foil to the rich fruit. Drink 2023-2028.

  • Greg Sherwood MW, March 2023, Score: 95

Steely and intense, super focused and energetic, showing white pear, classic straw and dried herbs and peach stone. Seamless purity with bright refreshing acids, effortless concentration and a delightful focus. Really very pure and princely with a wonderfully premium feel.

  • Goedhuis, September 2022

Displaying the nuances of its particular terroir, the Bourgogne Rouge Champ de Perdrix, from the immensely talented Vincent Charton, is an advert for the virtues of low-intervention winemaking. The result is a wine with wonderful freshness and bright acidity, while an abundance of crystalline cranberry and blackberry fruit wraps around juicy tannins, adding to its moreish finish. A beautifully balanced Pinot, the 2020 represents superb value.

  • Burghound, October 2021, Score: 86-89

Here too the nose is relatively firmly reduced but the fruit is clearly ripe. Otherwise, there is even better volume to the intense, solidly concentrated and attractively textured flavors that are borderline chewy on the rustic but more complex and inviting finish. This too offers fine quality in an age-worthy package. Outstanding Top Value

  • Decanter, June 2023, Score: 93

At this Mercurey estate, Vincent credits his father lean- Pierre with identifying and purchasing many of their key sites. A delicious, characterful Bourgogne Rouge that balances slightly rustic tannins with appealing freshness and ripeness of fruit and long, lingering acidity. A subtle touch of oak adds to the appeal. A fine, leafy, elegant and complex wine with plenty of ageing potential. Drink 2023-2026 Ale 13%
