Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2012
The 65 year old vines have created a very profound wine with delicious aromas of loganberries and summer fruits. A big rich style with mouth filling fruit flavours and good intense tannins.
-
Burghound, January 2013,
Score: 90(from a mix of Brochon vines planted between 1922 and 1961 that average 60+ years of age). This is more deeply pitched than the Jeunes Rois with a ripe, cool and airy nose of dark berry fruit liqueur that is liberally laced with plenty of pungent Gevrey style earth notes that can also be found on the rich, dense and powerful flavors that possess a seductive texture thanks to the huge amount of dry extract that also imparts an opulent mouth feel. There is good structure here but it’s almost invisible at present, again thanks to the abundance of extract. This is an outstanding wine for its level and one that will be approachable young but should age very well too. Drink 2018+

Jancis Robinson, January 2013,
Score: 16Rich and ripe red cherry fruit. Some transparency. Quite notable acidity. Drink 2016-2023

Domaine Geantet-Pansiot

Created in 1955 by Edmond Geantet, this popular domaine has been run by his friendly and energetic son Vincent since 1989. Now joined by his son and daughter, Fabien and Emilie, the Geantets have built up this domaine into one of the most substantial estates in the Côte de Nuits, with 22 hectares of vines across Gevrey Chambertin and beyond. Their new winery at the edge of the village may not be one of the region’s architectural high points, but it has given them the vital space to vinify at ease. Through a combination of old vines (plenty of centenaries in their vineyards), sumptuous fruit concentration and generous new oak they make a hedonistic style of Burgundy. With a generous 10 day cold maceration, the colours are deep and the fruit aromas dark and ripe.
Region
Gevrey-Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
