Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, 2005
Malconsorts is traditionally a vineyard that does not reveal itself in barrel tastings and prefers to remain tight-knit for several years. This wine is true to character, yet displays great potential with its concentrated flavours of ripe hedgerow fruit and bittersweet chocolate. This is a wine to watch.Drink:2010 - 2020+

Burghound, January 2007,
Score: 90A nose of highly complex earthy dark berry fruit aromas laced liberally with spice, subtle herb and tea notes with robust, powerful, intense and muscular full-bodied flavors underpinned by a firm tannic spine and noteworthy grip. This finishes with superb intensity and stunning depth and completely coats and stains the palate. A lovely effort if not quite at its usual standard.Drink: 2012+.Notes: from a .74 ha parcel of 35 year old vines.Comments: outstanding!

Burghound, January 2006,
Score: 91-93This presently shares the reserved and backward personality of the Reignots with only glimpses of highly complex earthy dark berry fruit aromas laced liberally with spice and tea notes but in contrast to the former wine's emphasis on finesse, here the flavors run toward the robust with powerful, intense and muscular full-bodied flavors underpinned by a firm tannic spine and noteworthy grip that is completely buffered by buckets of pinot sap. Finishes with superb intensity and stunning depth and completely coats and stains the palate. This is flat out marvelous with striking energy and you don't want to miss it. Drink: 2014+.Notes: from a .74 ha parcel of 35 year old vines.Comments: outstanding!

Producer
Domaine Sylvain Cathiard

Sylvain Cathiard is one of the top growers in Vosne Romanée, a region not shy of exceptional talent. He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.
Region
Vosne-Romanée
The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
