  (Opened from personal storage). A still quite somber nose of distinctly earthy dark pinot fruit aromas leads to round and admirably concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess good phenolic maturity but culminate in an unusually one-dimensional if persistent finish. There is good underlying material and there is nothing wrong with the balance but as good as this wine usually is it would be fair to observe that at this point it leaves something to be desired. You'll note from my suggested drinking window that this has by no means reached its peak so my score offers the benefit of the doubt that better things are in store. I stress however that this is not a given as 10 years is typically enough to assess reasonably well where a wine is headed. In short| this is disappointing relative to its usual quality. Drink: try 2017+.

  A subtle touch of oak frames an attractive mix of red and black pinot fruit and pungent earth and underbrush aromas, leading to precise, pure and sappy flavors that offer the best intensity of any of these Beaune 1ers. The finale is persistent, punchy and displays a finishing hint of toast. This will be capable of aging well. Drink 2008-2016.

Maison Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859 by Louis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot has always been situated in the centre of Beaune in the heart of the Burgundy vineyards. Managed by three generations of the Jadot family and then by the Gagey family assisted by Jacques Lardière in the cellar, Jadot is now directed by Pierre Henry Gagey, who has introduced a new wine making team, Frédéric Barnier and Guillaume Large. Since careful ageing in wooden barrels is so very important for the balance, aromas and the ageing potential of a great wine, in 1996, Louis Jadot entered into partnership with a firm of coopers, forming Cadus Cooperage, established in Ladoix Serrigny. This allows them to control their wood sourcing and the barrel production. Maison Louis Jadot now controls 105 hectares in Burgundy with more than 70 hectares in the Côte d'Or, exclusively in Premier and Grand Cru. They produce both negociant wines under the Maison Louis Jadot label and a number of Domaines: Gagey, Duc de Magenta, Louis Jadot and Héritiers de Louis Jadot.
