Goedhuis, November 2020
Strikingly steely mineral aromas. A hugely intense wine for a village Chablis, which will benefit from a period of ageing. Very structured and controlled. Beautifully vibrant, the gentle touch of honeycomb on the finish provides both charm and approachability.

Burghound, November 2020,
Score: 88Here the somewhat tropical nose also offers reasonable if not special typicity. The very forward and almost easy-going flavors possess good punch on the clean and dry finish. This too will drink well early on.

Matthew Jukes, November 2020,
Score: 17.5Delicious in every department with a fabulous floral nose, a keen attack, a plump midriff and a drama-packed finish. This wine tells an engaging story perfectly, as you might expect, and it also happens to be great value for money. Finer than many Premier Crus from less starry Domaines, there is a volume of flavour coupled with a keen freshness which keeps this creation honest and lively. It will drink well young, but try to hold off until it is three years old for it to fully blossom. Drink 2021-2025

Jasper Morris MW, December 2020,
Score: 86-88Some light green tints in the yellow. A rich and ripe nose, but not as exotic as the Petit Chablis. This is plump, full rather than, soft, and still finishes classically, but with ample flesh nonetheless. 3 stars.

Producer
Domaine Jean-Paul Droin

Benoît Droin is the 14th generation of his family to manage this domaine, whose history stretched back a staggering 400 years. He is a fanatical viticulturalist with an unparalleled understanding of the impressive array of the region and its vines. Widely respected as one of the most dynamic winemakers in the region, he has build on the success of his father, Jean-Paul, in his own distinctive style. He has taken the domaine away from the pronounced use of new oak for which it was once known, and reduced yields through a revised pruning system. The concentration and purity of the fruit he produces makes exemplary Chablis. Unmistakable as well as captivating; Chablis at its best.
Region
Chablis
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
