Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, November 2020
A reserved and composed style with hints of quince and white peach. An attractive balance between a fresh linear purity and an intensity and depth of citrus fruit. Well-structured with a tight gravel-like minerality on the finish. An excellent Premier Cru.

Decanter, October 2020,
Score: 91This certainly has a more bruised-fruit character than other Côte de Léchet bottlings. A touch of smokiness on the nose and palate. Apple fruit notes, with plenty of acidity to keep everything in check. There's no shortage of things going on here, but the terroir is a little in the background at the moment. Organic certification. 2022-2027

Matthew Jukes, November 2020,
Score: 17Grainy and active on the palate, this is a chewy wine with structure and girth. There is fresh acidity on the finish and this pulls it all into line and lengthens proceedings, but the mid-palate is where much of the action is and this makes Côte de Léchet a rather excitable and ebullient wine. Producer
Denis et Isabelle Pommier

Denis and Isabelle Pommier created this charming estate in 1990 after inheriting several small parcels from Denis’s grandfather. Since then they have added further plots so that the domaine now covers 18 hectares in total. Organically certified since 2014, the Pommiers craft vibrant, aromatic wines from native yeasts. The premiers crus are part fermented in barrels of varying ages and are delicious expressions of their Kimmeridgian terroirs.
Region
Chablis
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
