En Primeur | Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d’Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is most famous for its Grands Crus. It can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming, opulent and gloriously scented, giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.

"Vosne’s signature floral scent is untrammelled in 2019 so much so that at times it was like walking into a violet-obsessed florists. This scent distinguishes it from other appellations. Vosne-Romanée is where you come for the most luxurious, satin-textured expressions of Pinot Noir." Neal Martin

Beaux Monts sits above Echezeaux and this cooler location contributes to the bright energy of this 2019. This has great purity with lots of bilberry and freshly made raspberry jam aromas. It reflects the low yield intensity, has masses of drive and a long, controlled finish.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a brash, decadent bouquet of intense cassis and black cherry aromas that slightly occlude the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and shows a little more restraint than the nose, although I do still find the finish a little high-octane for a Beaux Monts. Drink 2023 - 2033

Tank sample. Deep cherry red. At first the fruit smells much riper here than any of the Maison Roche de Bellene wines tasted so far. Peppery damsons, but it changes in the glass. Dark and quite oaky, it seems, almost charry. Dry, fine tannins pull this back into the elegant camp. I changed my mind about this wine as I tasted it. It needs a lot of time but the structure is very fine indeed. (JH) Drink 2028-2040

Brilliant shining purple colour. This isa model Vosne Romanée with intense red cherry fruit with a touch of Victoria plum. A beautifully vibrant wine, full of energy, with an excellent central kernel of tight cherry stone tannins, which gives poise and length.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village has a very tight bouquet at first, but that was due to it being pulled from barrel just before my tasting; it coalesces in the glass and gains delineation over 20–30 minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins, a fine bead of acidity and good precision on the finish. This punches above its weight. Recommended. Drink 2022-2032.

Notes of blackberries, cassis, sweet soil tones and spicy new oak introduce the 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine framed by youthfully chewy tannins that assert themselves on the finish. William Kelley

A glorious open nose of wild alpine fruits with a touch of vanilla pod and cocoa. A wine which shows off the characteristic muscle and power of this fine vineyard. It oozes with self-confidence. Very full and the structure of tannic depth means plenty of aging potential.

Nicolas’ old vine Vosne shows some inviting darker fruits this year with a touch of mocha and spice. There is an excellent line of purity and bright freshness beneath the generous wild berry palate. Plenty of drive and tannic tension provide depth and weight on the finish.
