En Primeur | Spotlight on Beaune
Whilst the historic town of Beaune is home to the region’s most famous negociant houses, the surrounding vineyards bearing its name are, in our opinion, somewhat unfairly overlooked. The 2021 vintage is the perfect vintage for the Beaune wines to distinguish themselves: its elegance, grace and charm highlights the more forward nature of wines from Chorey, the perfumed fruit of Beaune and the terroir authenticity of Savigny. We’re limiting purchases to 1 or 2 cases for many wines due to high demand. Please contact your account manager or wine@goedhuis.com to discuss larger quantities.
2021 Chorey lès Beaune La Pièce du Chapitre Tollot-Beaut
£156.00 In Bond £203.27 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
This is a monopole vineyard owned by the Tollots in the north of the appellation. Shining bright cherry and raspberry fruit. A beautifully accessible style, open and easy, but with unexpected substance on the finish thanks to its grainy tannic structure.

Possibly lighter in colour and lighter in bouquet. At least the equal in finesse but slightly less in pure fruit. More tannins to finish, which may be hiding the fruit. Drink from 2024-2027.
2021 Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes Domaine Rapet Père et Fils
£220.00 In Bond £280.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Bright red cherry colour, this has a sweetness of red fruits, raspberry and strawberry. Tremendous perfume, all about elegance, this will give early drinking pleasure. The tannins have a lightness of touch giving the wine an easy approachability.

Old vines. Very similar colour. The bouquet is a little sturdier than the Clos du Roi, and there are peppery notes at the finish. Solid and sound but I find the Clos du Roi more charming. Drink from 2025-2030.
2021 Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes A F Gros
£295.00 In Bond £370.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Les Boucherottes is on the southern boundary of Beaune just above Pommard’s Epenots vineyards. This side of the appellation tends to produce poised, elegant wines rather than the firmer more muscular style of the northern side of the commune. 100% destalked fruit, this is striking and floral, peony and pomegranate, with a generous sweetness of fruit. The tannins have a bit more substance than some years, with fine grip at the end.

The 2021 Beaune Les Boucherottes 1er Cru was completely de-stemmed as the vines naturally produce acidity. The malo had not finished on this cuvée but there appears to be fine concentration on the nose considering the vintage. The palate is sweet, slightly candied on the entry with blood orange and tangerine infusing the red fruit. Ripe and energetic on the simple yet effective finish. Fine. Drink 2024-2032.
2021 Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières Chandon de Briailles
£310.00 In Bond £388.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
This fine vineyard was planted in 1956 and the domaine has a peach of a location mid-slope, facing south and southeast. A perfume of violet and mountain berries. Such a gracious and sensual style, with a charming volume of plumpness and richness and a soft sweetness on the finish. Delicious.

From southerly-exposed slopes (though the vines are orientated east), the 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru has a simple but fairly perfumed nose with mulberry, cranberry and hints of brown spice. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins. The 2021 is harmonious with a mixture of red plum, white pepper and thyme towards the finish. What a lovely Savigny-les-Beaune. Drink 2024-2034.

50% whole bunch vinification. Now racked for bottling in November. Darkish purple. Why does the first sniff remind me of Bordeaux? Just a fleeting thought before the real bouquet starts to come out. Rich cherry with a blacker edge, while Claude suggests violets. Still, there is something slightly green underneath, adding a mild astringency. A little more weight than Fourneaux, medium persistence. Drink from 2025-2028.
