Goedhuis, December 2020
One of the highlights of the tasting. An intense nose of sweet summer pudding berries. This is a naturally attention seeking wine, keen to show and fully aware of its qualities. Despite all the abundance of everything, no one character dominates another, everything is beautifully integrated. Magnificent.

Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 91-93
The 2019 Chambertin Grand Cru has a slightly lactic bouquet and needs more time to fully subsume the oak. Quite high-toned at the moment; I prefer the Clos de la Roche when the two are compared. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannins and layers of black fruit laced with pain grillé and black pepper. Delivering fine grip on the finish, this Chambertin does exit with style. It is just the aromatics that need to pull their socks up during the remainder of élevage. Drink 2024 - 2040

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less
Region
Chambertin
Gevrey Chambertin lies well to the north of the Cote de Nuits. It has no less than 9 grand cru vineyards and the most famous of these is Chambertin. Often considered the greatest of all red Burgundies for its complexity, power and intensity, Chambertin's fine wines are unsurprisingly rare and are priced accordingly. They also need years to develop to their full potential, but are undoubtedly worth the wait.
