Goedhuis, November 2020
This is a real class act. Lemon yellow in colour, hints of Jersey cream, quince and medlar. A full and statuesque wine, with a very tight intensity; a wonderful reflection of this fine Premier Cru. Great structure and fabulous length on the finish.

Burghound, November 2020,
Score: 91-93A restrained nose flashes only a touch of exotic character on the spicy aromas of mostly yellow orchard fruit, iodine and rose petal. There is excellent underlying tension to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that complements well the bright and firm acidity shaping the lingering finale. This is potentially excellent and one to check out. Drink 2026+

Matthew Jukes, November 2020,
Score: 17+More backward and sinewy than Fourchaume, this is Pinson’s attempt at making a longer-lived, more powerful wine and I have to say that I far prefer Fourchaume’s tenderness and welcoming flavours than I do Mont-de-Milieu’s hard exoskeleton and unyielding fruit. I understand that there is sometimes a hierarchy in a Domaines’ Premier Crus but, in this instance, I feel that this vineyard should have been left to its own devices and not overworked in the winery and this might have resulted in a more expressive and delicious wine. Jasper Morris MW, December 2020,
Score: 92-95Also just assembled. What a volume of fruit on the palate even though we cannot really see the nose yet. Brilliant deep white fruit. Broad shouldered, but not bearing undue weight of flesh, and really good length., sometimes I worry about the wood used for this cuvée, but not this year. 5 stars.

Domaine Pinson Freres

The Pinson name is one of the most established in the town of Chablis; the family can trace its history there back to the 1640s. It is now run by brothers Christophe and Laurent, joined by Laurent’s daughter, Charlène. The family team oversee some of the finest parcels of old vines in the region from which they make extraordinarily fine and classical Chablis. They like to use oak barrels for maturation, although the influence of new oak is only ever a gentle whisper in the background of their steely wines. Their wines consistently show the raciness and elegance of fine Chablis.
Region
Chablis
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
