En Primeur | Domaine Tortochot
The Tortochot family have been respected vignerons in Gevrey Chambertin since the 19th century, but it is in recent times, under the stewardship of Chantal Tortochot, that key changes have taken place. After 15 years of working in the oil industry, Chantal moved back to the estate to convert it from being a supplier of fine quality fruit to the négociant house Joseph Drouhin, into her own family domaine. In 2008 she made the next step by converting her 12 hectares to become fully organic.

This is a particularly special cuvee of Morey St Denis for Chantal, returning to the domaine after 36 years on a leasehold her father set up with a neighbour in Morey St Denis, so in her eyes, it is reborn! Brilliant red brick colour, striking raspberry and freshly picked strawberry aroma. A free flowing and graceful wine, with a ripe generous volume and sweet fruit finish.

Goedhuis, December 2023
From a selection of 100 year old vines planted by Felix Tortochot in 1920 at the bottom of Côtes St Jacques, this cuvée is a very charming example of village Gevrey. Extremely intense black cherry and liquorice flavours, this has been made in a plush and ample style, with an old vine intensity. Finishes with a reassuring lift and freshness.

Goedhuis, December 2023
Morey St Denis’s Premier Cru Aux Charmes adjoins Mazoyères Grand Cru. Legend has it that if it had fallen within the more powerful parish of Gevrey Chambertin, it would have been classified as a Grand Cru. Full, wild savoury fruit characters, supported by a firm tannic tension and depth and persistence on the finish make this a very good midterm keeper.
2022 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux Tortochot

A well positioned Premier Cru on the northerly border of the commune alongside Brochon. It captures all the wonderful fruit flavours of the vintage with charm and harmony. Noticeable alpine fruits and Valrhona chocolate, the softness of the tannins are a little misleading as beneath, there is great density and body to this classy wine. Superb.
2022 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques Tortochot

Goedhuis, December 2023
Lavaux St Jacques is one of Gevrey’s highest vineyards, renowned for making wines of great elegance. The cooling high altitude is offset by its southerly exposure, and the benefits of both shine through in this excellent cuvée. Flavours of wild autumnal hedgerow fruits and the overall generosity of fruit, sits alongside an impression of sapidity, which Chantal explains come from the mineral salt of the soil, creating a mouth-watering effect on the palate. So full of lively energy, this wine really strikes a chord.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet, floral like the Vieilles Vignes, with scents of redcurrant, cranberry and sous-bois. However, there is much better delineation here, whilst the palate is cohesive and delineated. Taut and sapid towards the finish, this finely-made Lavaux Saint-Jacques should offer a decade's worth of drinking fulfillment. Drinking Window: 2026-2036.
2022 Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru Tortochot
£1,300.00 In Bond £1,579.24 Inc VAT (£263.20 Per Bottle)-
Goedhuis, December 2023
The vineyards of Mazis Chambertin sit between Clos de Bèze Grand Cru and the village of Gevrey Chambertin and are respected for making deep and powerful wines. Whilst it is aged in 80% new oak on tasting, you are oblivious to any barrel aging. It is so full of red fruits, with tayberry and a floral lavender perfume. Unquestionably a Grand Cru with a great body and wealth of richness, structured with muscular power on the finish.

The 2022 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru looks extremely promising. Backward yet enticing on the nose, it is laden with tertiary red fruit and quite loamy, but the terroir floods through here. The palate is well-balanced with an almost citric spine of acidity, counterbalancing the density and power of this Mazis. Tangible mineralité on the finish, this is an excellent Mazis-Chamberting from Tortochot. Drinking Window: 2027-2045.
2022 Chambertin Grand Cru Tortochot

The jewel in Tortochot’s crown; almost 0.5 hectares of Gevrey’s greatest Grand Cru at one of the highest locations within the vineyard. A combination of red and dark cherry, the 100% new oak, wafts across with nuances of sweet spice and mocha. The volume of fruit is soothing, giving a lovely profile of ripeness and plucky sweetness. Its overall body consumes the tannins and means everything lingers in the mouth for a very pleasing amount of time. Great class.
