En Primeur | Domaine Pommier

From small acorns grow mighty oaks. In 1990 Denis and Isabelle took over 2 hectares of family land outside the town of Chablis. Today, through astuteness and hard work, they have expanded the domaine to 23 hectares of high-quality vineyards, all benefitting from organic practices since 2014. Their style is to make fruit forward wines, with a graceful volume. They always have a classic Chablis freshness, combining well with floral and ripe Chardonnay flavours.

From a 1-hectare plot of 60-year-old vines, this is a flagship for the domaine. Aromas of honeycomb and yellow fruits offer instant appeal, with noticeable 1er Cru depth. The grip of Seville orange peel on the finish gives terroir definition and further dimension.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2023, Score: 90-92

Pale colour with a light green tint. Quite a gentle bouquet, pure white fruit, almost floral here. I like the balance between the clean primary fruit and the tension at the back. This is a little more Chablis typical than Troesmes, especially at the finish. Greater length with salinity. Drink from 2026-2032.

100% vinification in stainless steel tank. Classical and pure, with a maritime scent of oyster shell and sea breeze. This is a deliciously straightforward wine, with citrus fruits, a chalkstone texture and floral lift on the finish. Lovely.

  • Burghound, October 2023, Score: 88

This is also aromatically ripe and fresh with more citrus influence to the white orchard fruit, ocean breeze and quinine-scented nose. The plump, round and delicious medium weight flavors possess a finer mouthfeel while exhibiting slightly better depth and persistence on the nicely dry if not exactly crisp finale. This too should drink well young. Drink 2025+

  • Decanter, October 2023, Score: 89

Plenty of appealing, ripe, sun-kissed fruit on the palate but with the acidity to keep in balance. Quite different from 2021 in style, will have wide appeal but perhaps less for Chablis purists. Drink 2024 - 2027

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2023, Score: 87-88

Pale to mid lemon and lime. The bouquet takes more teasing out, while the palate delivers an excellent example, mostly white fruit then with a slightly richer finish, but excellent balancing mineral acidity. The fruit profile includes some more tropical fruit. Drink from 2024-2025.
