En Primeur | Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet
Jean-Philippe was just 20 when his father handed down the family’s sharecropping arrangements in the village of Meursault. In the intervening 40 years Jean-Philippe has lost none of his enthusiasm nor his thirst for knowledge. Initially he made full and hedonistic wines; today the estate’s style is more reflective. Jean-Philippe believes the origins of great wine are first and foremost in the vineyard. His motto is to respect the soil and the vine, treating only when necessary. Earlier picking dates deliver a stunning mineral freshness. In the winery he operates a much gentler handling process than in his youth. Larger casks and less new oak mean the wines possess superb fruit content.
2021 Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes Côte d’Or Jean-Philippe Fichet

Goedhuis, December 2022
The dominant force in this old vine cuvée of Bourgogne Blanc comes from the Les Palland vineyard close to Puligny planted between 1945 and 1950. The older vines were a little behind some other plots and therefore they were a little less affected by the frosts. Aromas of brioche and roasted nuts, it has a volume and weight punching well above its classification. Zesty and persistent on the finish.

While Fichet’s Merusaults look typically suave and correct, there is some fun to be had here for a low entry price. Crunchy, lifted, refreshing, and with lovely length, this is, once again, a worthy mini-Meursault.

Goedhuis, January 2023
This neighbouring village to Meursault is rightly growing in both stature and recognition as a source of fine white Burgundy. The wines are a little less flamboyant than its better known neighbour and can have a vibrant streak of freshness. Jean-Philippe makes a fine example, with lemon and lime flavours, creamy undertones and a flinty mineral side to it on the finish.
2021 Meursault Jean-Philippe Fichet
£275.00 In Bond £346.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Coming from five vineyard plots with different locations, aspects, and soil types across the appellation, this is a classical representation of Meursault. A little reserved initially, prior to an abundance of whipped cream and unsalted butter sensations. A gentle broad texture, remaining fresh throughout and hugely pleasurable.

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 88-91
Pale lemon and lime. More strict than plump, with the typical Fichet note of reduction on the nose. Lots of tension, quite austere on the palate. Good length, white fruit with almost a savoury touch. Drink from 2025-2028.
