En Primeur | Domaine Hubert Lamy

The Lamy family have been vignerons in St Aubin since 1640. Today they have an enviable 18.5 hectares covering the leading appellations of St Aubin, Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet, making 20 different cuvées in total. Olivier likes to use high-density plantings and his viticultural prowess is revered amongst other growers. His style is to focus on the natural fruit characters and appellational representation, and so favours an ageing process for his white wines in larger barrels, mostly in demi-muids (600 litres) aged between 1 and 10 years old, which he thinks reflect the prefect composition between fruit and oak.

Olivier always keeps a close and watchful eye on the weather. He has extraordinary records and data to compare any given year against another. In 2020 he says whilst benefitting from the excellent healthy conditions and the lack of any disease, it was so important to protect the vines against excessive water stress, with rainfall down almost 40% compared to the average during the year. Sunshine hours were up 15% on average and temperatures were also higher than average. All of this strengthened his natural preference to harvest early which he did again starting on 19th August. His wines very much hold true the spirit of St Aubin: vibrant with great energy, an elegant portrayal of their site and terroir.
