En Primeur | Domaine de l'Arlot

Domaine de L’Arlot has been owned by AXA Millésimes since 1987 and is currently under the direction of Englishman Christian Seely, who also has responsibility for their Bordeaux estates Ch. Pichon Baron in Pauillac, Ch. Suduiraut in Sauternes and Port house Quinta do Noval. In 2014 he appointed wine maker Geraldine Godot as technical director to manage this fine 14-hectare estate, which includes two famous monopole vineyards in Nuits St Georges on the most southern boundary of the Côte de Nuits.

Geraldine has overseen the final conversion of all the domaine’s vineyards to biodynamic practices. She is committed to the view that healthy land and a healthy environment are paramount for making the very best wines, with terroir identity at their heart. The domaine has a reputation for using whole bunch vinification techniques. Geraldine continues this approach with an open mind and will adapt as she sees fit for each vintage and individual plot, so the proportion does vary wine by wine in 2020. She also comments thoughtfully that whilst warm, the year was cooler than 2019 and, importantly, the cold nights have contributed to the excellent freshness that flows through all her wines this year.

We’re limiting purchases to 1 or 2 cases per wine due to high demand. Please contact your account manager or wine@goedhuis.com to discuss larger quantities.

These vines actually lie within 1er Cru Clos de l’Arlot, but the estate chooses to declassify what they term as a young vine parcel, planted between 1992 and 2006, to this village cuvée. Chardonnay was planted on the sectors of limestone of the Clos. Light straw in colour, with notes of rose petal and jasmine. Harmonious with a gentle viscosity. Rounded, graceful and fresh.

Cask sample. Light earthiness on the nose. But fresh greenery underneath and excellent acidity. A fine white Nuits, even if it's a little more stolid than most Côte de Beaune whites. Drink 2022 – 2026

Fined and racked to tank, to bottle in January. Surprisingly deep lemon yellow, a little banana and persimmon. Significant power here, white fruit but a little heat behind, some acidity fortunately. Full but not especially fresh.

    Goedhuis, December 2021

The monopole Clos de l’Arlot is 4 hectares in total, and 2 of those on the higher slopes are planted with Chardonnay. A more exotic style than the Gerbotte, the flavours of peach and Seville orange give way to creamy richness. Hazelnut and kumquat lift and freshen the palate on the finish. Rich and full-bodied, this is an impressive wine

Cask sample. Just a whisper of oak on the nose. Refined oiliness of texture and some of that green vegetation perceptible on the Gerbotte 2020. Solid stuff. Drink 2024 – 2030
