En Primeur | Domaine Antoine Jobard

Antoine’s first vintage was back in 1998, when he joined his father before taking over full control of the domaine. During this period the style has evolved; the wines are less reserved than in his father Francois’s time, but they still maintain the domaine hallmark of the ability for great longevity.  His wines always have precision, balance, depth, and long living potential.

A blend of five different parcels within the commune of Meursault; we tasted just two days after bottling and it was showing all its colours. Bright lemon-yellow hue, it combines a creamy richness with roasted nut flavours. This could so easily be mistaken for a Meursault; it bears all the great appellation’s hallmarks. Superb.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 85

The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc has a fragrant floral bouquet. The palate is well-balanced, with a smooth texture and slightly low acidity but a clean, innocuous finish. Drinking Window: 2023-2026.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 86-88

Bottled four days ago. A fresh and pretty colour. Very clean, lively white fruit. Good crisp salinity behind but equally there is enough flesh. A little ripe citrus too. Drink from 2025-2027.

The 2022 Meursault Village, a blend of Jobard's lieux-dits, which has been the case for three vintages now, has a classic nose of orchard fruit, walnut and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is very well-balanced with a lime and citrus peel opening, crisp acidity and a little fatness towards the finish. Very fine. Drinking WIndow: 2025-2038.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 90-92

Mid lemon and lime. The bouquet is not overtly weighty. The hillside vineyards and those below complement each other. There is certainly excellent energy beneath here, a fine thread to freshen the weight of white orchard fruit. Impeccable village Meursault. Drink from 2027-2034.

From a single parcel, Les Combes, sitting alongside Pommard. Antoine destalks all the fruit from this vineyard and is looking for a high degree of Pinot purity. Brilliant scarlet colour, with summer strawberry field scent. Sweet and supple in the palate, this has a graceful silky finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 86-88

The 2022 Volnay Village has a pretty nose, although maybe it misses the complexity of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, quite Pommard-like in style with a marine-tinged finish. Fine. Drinking Window: 2025-2035.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 88-90

Mid red, attractively perfumed, a little spice behind, a touch of pepper, but still quite a good density of raspberry and strawberry fruit. Drink from 2026-2029.

Bordering Pommard, this is a more powerfully structured Beaune than many reds in the appellation. A wine with wild savoury notes, the 30% whole bunch pressed fruit shows off wild alpine fruit aromas and gives additional body and breadth in the palate. Very rounded tannins and the dark spice on finish gives a further burst of unctuous sweet ripe fruit.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 86-88

The 2022 Beaune Epenottes 1er Cru needs to forage a little more focus on the nose; it’s a tad rustic in style compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, plenty of dark, peppery fruit, and just a bit of dryness toward the spicy finish. Fine. Drinking Window: 2026-2034.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 90-92

Mid crimson in colour. The fruit is a little more together on the nose, with some generosity of red berry fruit. Extra density through the middle with enough structure inside, though this is normally quite soft as a vineyard. In the end the density carries it through very well. Drink from 2027-2033.

From the sector known as Les Petits Epenots which is recognised for making a fine, poised style of Pommard. A deep crimson colour, with wild fruits of the forest aromas. Whilst it has dark brooding fruit on the palate, the texture is fine and lacey with soft rounded tannins and an appealing lift of freshness on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 90-92

The 2022 Pommard Epenots 1er Cru easily has the richest, most opulent bouquet with violet-tinged red fruit, quite vivacious in style, a Pommard determined to seduce. The palate is medium-bodied and perhaps more…contained than the aromatics. But plenty of black plum fruit, baking powder and cracked black pepper remain, exerting gentle grip on the finish. Quite robust, but it will age well in bottle. Drinking Window: 2025-2040.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 91-93

Mid crimson. An interesting complex and more savoury nose. A little more red fruit perfume. 50 years old vines which were in not too bad a state. A bit more, in fact a lot more, punch behind, with a weight of dark fruit and an altogether more complete finish. The fruit keeps returning. Drink from 2028-2035.

From a small combe high up at the edge of Meursault bordering the appellation of Puligny. Antoine feels its enclosed position means the fruit tends to ripen a little earlier than his other vineyards, and this is the first white vineyard he picks at harvest time, on 25th August this year. A very generous wine, with flavours of Jersey cream and hints of toffee banana and pecans. Long and very concentrated.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 92-94

The 2022 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru had a lot of reduction when I tasted it from barrel, though its intensity was clear. The palate is very promising: wonderful tension here, steely and spicier than the Meursault Village, with touches of fennel and white pepper on the finish. Quite feisty and surely one for long-term aging. Drinking Window: 2026-2048.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 91-93

Fresh in colour and also in bouquet, the hillside effect playing well. A chiselled stony nose followed by more than adequate flesh on the palate, making an energetic and complete whole. A fine long aftertaste, still full of energy. Drink from 2028-2035.
