En Primeur | Domaine Anne-Francoise Gros
In 1998 the marriage of François Parent and Anne-Françoise Gros combined two family dynasties. The Parents of Pommard and the Gros estates in Vosne Romanée created this superb ten-hectare estate under the AF Gros label, comprising some of the finest terroirs across the Côte d’Or. Today the domaine is in the very secure hands of their two children: Caroline runs the commercial side and Mathias is responsible for the vineyards and winemaking. Mathias is very much one of the new generation, following organic practices and minimal intervention during the winemaking process.

Citrus lime colour, very floral aromatics, with rose petal, camomile, and striking yellow fruit and satsuma flavours. An easy forward drinking style, with a well-balanced refreshing finish.

The bottom of their Hautes Côtes plot in Arcenant was replanted in white in 2017, giving its first vintage in 2020. Very pretty aromatics here, verbena and lime blossom, more citrus on the palate, very nice indeed with the right acidity. Slight youthful bitterness.

These vines are in a higher altitude location in the Hautes Côtes above Nuits St Georges. It is a naturally cooler site and has excelled in 2020. Very bright, energetic red cherry fruit flavours, an exciting purity, good tannic grip with a lovely bite and lift on the finish.

Excellent medium deep purple with a pinkish tinge. The aromatics are beautiful here, with a depth of flavour unusual in Hautes Côtes. Dark raspberry with fresher notes, loganberry perhaps, good grip behind and fair length. Well done.
2020 Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes A F Gros
£270.00 In Bond £340.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2021
Les Boucherottes is on the southern boundary of Beaune just above Pommard’s Epenots vineyards. This side of the appellation tends to produce poised, elegant wines rather than the firmer more muscular style of the northern side of the commune. Deep black cherry colour, with sweet Victoria plum and cherry flavours. A broader shouldered style this year, but with the tell-tale supple silky tannins and finesse at the end.

The second vineyard to be picked, but had already hit 15%. 75 year old vines. Incredible dense purple colour. Superplump up front, an immediate attack of ripe fruit, then something of a hole, followed by the dry tannins. Not hot but not balanced either.
