En Primeur | Chablis 2019

We are excited to launch our 2019 Burgundy En Primeur campaign with some seriously good Chablis. While the pandemic prevented us from visiting the region this year, growers kindly sent us samples which the entire team tasted in London (socially distanced of course!). This is a return to classic Chablis and we were so impressed with the fantastic quality of this vintage. The 2019s are profoundly mineral with refreshingly bright fruit, great balance and typicity.

The 2019 growing season was marked by a cool spring and a warm, dry summer. Early budburst caused some unsuccessful flowering which led to reduced yields in certain vineyards, while a couple of summer heatwaves further diminished volumes. However, come harvest time, the remaining grapes were beautifully concentrated and the outcome is a small crop of fabulous wines.

The critics' reviews have been extremely enthusiastic. Jasper Morris MW sums up this vintage as having the “searing essence of kimmeridgian ‘oyster-shell’ Chablis”. For Allen Meadows of Burghound, the defining characteristic is an “underlying typicity and salinity". Decanter has given the vintage an impressive four stars, equal to the 2017s, albeit in a different style. You can see both David Roberts MW's and the published critics' notes and scores for the wines we are offering on our website.

With prices starting at £18 per bottle IB for Premier Cru, Chablis remains a great buy, particularly in such a versatile vintage as 2019. The wines are already showing enticing stone fruit and refreshing minerality but also have that all-important backbone of acidity to ensure they will go the distance.

We are delighted to offer some cuvées from Billaud-Simon and Pinson Frères in magnum however these, and all the Grands Crus, are limited so do be quick.
