En Primeur | Ch de Meursault
We are delighted to be including Château de Meursault in the list of Côte de Beaune estates we are launching this year. This fine property has gone through some very exciting developments under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, whose family themselves own a highly respected domaine in Aloxe Corton. The vineyards under the Château’s ownership cover an extraordinary 65 hectares, from Savigny Lès Beaune through to Meursault. In 2019 the estate was certified as fully organic, quite an achievement for a domaine of this size, covering so many fine appellations. This dynamic domaine is investing extensively in both the vineyards and the winery, reaching new heights in quality.
2021 Savigny Lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets Ch de Meursault
£230.00 In Bond £292.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Les Peuillets consists of very sandy soil, which, in a wetter year such as 2021, freely drains and keeps its warmth throughout the summer. Fresh cherry and strawberry fruits, this is a very pleasing and fleshy style, generous and sweet, with a layer of mocha and cocoa on the finish.

A pretty crimson purple. The bouquet shows more volume than the village Savigny, with a slightly more generous fruit. The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune Peuillets fills the mouth, well balanced, energy behind, a lifted finish with some length. Drink from 2025-2029.
2021 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes Ch de Meursault
£340.00 In Bond £424.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Situated on the cooler, higher slopes of this highly respected vineyard at 270 metres up above sea level. Brilliant purple colour this has both muscle and tension. Savoury dark berry fruits, a deep volume and breadth, with powerful richness. The tannins are present but kept in check by the weight of fruit. This has fine ageing potential.

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 91-93
Glowing mid purple with quite a striking elegance. A bouncy vibrant fruit then a slightly drier patch behind, but I think this is temporary as there is easily enough fruit on the palate. Shows the lifted harmonious pinot of this excellent vineyard. Drink from 2026-2032.
2021 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epenots Ch de Meursault
£515.00 In Bond £634.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Made from vines situated in Petits Epenots, this is a striking wine, combining flamboyance and charm. Wild berry, blackberry and apple characters. Very layered, the initial scent and charm give way to bolder depth and weight. It builds on the palate and, despite the obvious power, it is finely layered, with a lovely personality of nuanced spice and nutmeg on the finish. Excellent.

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 90-93
Mid crimson colour. Not one of the more ebullient noses at first, on its reserve. Plenty of weight of fresh fruit a little bit of fresh orange, otherwise raspberry and redcurrant, no great weight at the back but good length. This needs and will get a longer elevage. Drink from 2027-2033.
2021 Bourgogne Blanc Clos du Château Ch de Meursault
£180.00 In Bond £232.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Situated within the commune of Meursault, but just outside the appellational limits, this is a striking cuvée. Lemon yellow colour, quince and kumquat characters, with a touch of tropical fruit. Beautiful volume and very giving for youthful pleasure.

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 87-88
On its finings to bottle at the end of the year. Mid yellow, a certain volume of fruit on the nose, with a light banana touch. There is a considerable density here with a good clean finish. Always a good cuvée, and this year is no exception. Drink from 2024-2027.
2021 Meursault du Château Ch de Meursault
£340.00 In Bond £424.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
From 7 hectares of vineyards just below the Château, the property’s signature wine is a tremendous example of the appellation. With open, creamy characters, there is a touch of fudge and crushed almonds. Bright fresh energy, lovely and unctuous on the finish.
-
Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 89-91
Mid yellow. A certain weight to the nose without going towards the buttery style. This is very poised on the palate, a clearcut white fruit, medium weight, no overt oak influence, and a balanced finish. Just a little more grip at the back than the Savigny. Drink from 2025-2028.
2021 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus Ch de Meursault
£495.00 In Bond £610.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
Made from vines on the upper slopes of this fine Premier Cru, this wine has a greater degree of definition and more mineral energy than wines from the lower slopes. The estate owns 3 hectares and the 2021 is the most perfect example. Pale straw colour, it has a bright pure citrus personality, with pink grapefruit and limes. Mouth-watering on the palate with saline minerality, a complex and refreshing style.

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 93-96
A touch more yellow than the Perrières. A very fine nose, with the weight of Charmes but the sheer class of Perrières. Really impressive once again. With exceptional intensity to finish. You can’t call this as coming from a frozen minor vintage, chortles Stéphane, with some reason. Drink from 2027-2032.
2021 Corton Les Maréchaudes Grand Cru Ch de Meursault
£810.00 In Bond £988.07 Inc VAT-
Goedhuis, December 2022
The domaine owns a substantial 1.5 hectares of this steep Premier Cru, situated on three terraces. Radiant crimson colour. A rich floral style, ample and generous, this has an easy confidence, held perfectly together by some layered earthy tannins on the finish giving persistence and energy.

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 91-93
Fine bright purple. The bouquet is more open than the Pommard, showing an adequately ripe mixed red fruit. Delicious little red berries then with a crunchy limestone finish, still very much on the fresh red fruit with a few alpine strawberries. Drink from 2027-2033.
