Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, April 2020
This beautifully positioned property on the hill of Montagne St Emilion, overlooking the great estates of St Emilion and Pomerol, makes a wonderful pure and refined style of wine. It balances the succulence of rich Merlot fruit with an appealing drive. Energetic dark fruit flavours are provided by the two Cabernets (Franc and Sauvignon). Typically pure and vibrant from the superb 2016 vintage.
Producer
Château Montaiguillon

This is a small, well-respected right bank estate in Montagne St Emilion is owned by the Amart family. Vines here average about 40 years old, and are planted on clay-limestone soils: 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, for a classic right bank balance.
Region
Montagne St Emilion
The satellite commune of Montagne St Emilion is the largest appellation of St Emilion in Bordeaux, strewn with limestone and clay hillside vineyards and limestone plateaus. Of all the satellite communes, Montage St Emilion produces some of the deepest and richest wines which are often great value as these wines can be as good as Grand Cru St Emilion. Predominantly Merlot based, this red-wine only AOC traditionally also uses a collection of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon but Malbec and Carmenere are allowed as well.
