Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2014
A wine with bags of personality from possibly the Côte de Nuits’ most famous vineyard. Smokey coffee bean aromas, with hints of plums and dark cherries in the palate. A broad and richly intense wine; full, long and plenty of power.

Neal Martin, December 2014,
Score: 91-93The 2013 Clos Vougeot has a surprisingly backward and austere bouquet at first and only reluctantly opens to offer briary and blackberry notes with traces of seaweed with time. The palate is medium-bodied with spicy red fruit, a keen line of acidity and a sense of harmony and persistence on the finish. This is very commendable Clos Vougeot from the domaine, definitely one of the best Clos Vougeot from the vintage. Drink: 2017 - 2030

Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 92-94(from a superbly situated 1 ha parcel high on the hill). A pungent nose is composed of reductive aromas and oak toast. There is excellent intensity to the big-bodied flavors that are underpinned by phenolically mature tannins and an abundance of dry extract that serves not only to buffer the firm structure but also to impart a velvety mouth feel to the serious, long and moderately austere finish. Patience will definitely be required. Drink 2027+

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
