  • Goedhuis, December 2014

Deep purple in colour, the aroma is full of raspberries and red fruits. In the palate there are deeper darker flavours with hints of cocoa and spice. Tremendous breadth and volume, a full and richly concentrated wine.

  • Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 90-92

The 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru seemed just a little subdued when I tasted it from barrel, finding it difficult to follow the three exuberant Vosne premier crus. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin: a masculine Clos Vougeot with touches of mocha toward the finish, suggesting that it will need 3 or 4 years for the oak to fully integrate after bottling. Very fine, but my money would be invested in Vosne. Drink: 2016 - 2030

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 91-94

(from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Méo-Camuzet vines). This is also heavily reduced though not lactic. This combines excellent richness with very fine detail that adds to the appeal of the medium weight plus flavors that deliver outstanding length on the moderately austere and beautifully well-balanced finish. While not imposingly structured this will still need all of 12 to 15 years of bottle age to realize its full potential. Drink 2025+

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less
