Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2011
A typically masculine Clos Vougeot, with strong, spiced and earthy dark berry fruit aromas and flavours. A tightly knit and structured wine, expressing warmth of fruit and great depth on the finish.

Burghound, January 2012,
Score: 92-94(this and the Latricières are from the oldest vines of the Domaine and this wine comes from a superbly situated 1 ha parcel of Clos de Vougeot high on the hill). A slightly riper blend of red and blue pinot fruit, violets and plenty of warm earth also suffuses the rich, full-bodied and very serious broad-shouldered flavors. This enjoys an abundance of tannin-buffering dry extract that confers a sappy texture to the driving, complex and hugely long finish. This is a first-rate example of this uneven appellation and well worth considering. 2025+

Jancis Robinson, January 2012,
Score: 17.5Great energy on the nose. Dense fruit on the palate. Really rich and lively. Great vibrancy. Very impressive. Long and rich. Drink 2016-2028

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
