A superb expression of Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc, in the spotlight as the only variety in this wine. Fresh floral white fruit, crushed lime sorbet and rose petal. This is bright, layered and pure, with an intense structure and a delightful finish of lemon sherbet. Lovely.

  • Neal Martin, April 2022, Score: 93-95

The 2021 La Louvière Blanc has a well-defined bouquet of apricot blossom, quince and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine mineralité and lovely bitterness. Quite persistent in the mouth with a lingering finish. This is one of the best whites from La Louvière that I have encountered. Drink 2027 - 2042

  • Goedhuis, April 2022, Score: 93-95

A combination of Sauvignon Blanc (53%) and Semillon (47%) creates an expansive, generous wine, with creamy white fruit and peach flavours and intense, direct fresh herbal fruit from Sauvignon. Plenty of structure and great length. A high class wine from this fine estate in Malartic.

  • Neal Martin, April 2022, Score: 92-94

The 2021 Latour-Martillac Blanc has a knockout nose with apple blossom, nettle, wet pavement and citrus peel aromas. Real energy here. The palate is well balanced with fine concentration, taut and fresh with plenty of extract, touches of spice emerge towards the finish. Excellent. Drink 2026-2048

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2022, Score: 90-91

The 2021 Latour-Martillac Blanc offers an intriguing interplay of tension and fruit intensity. Lemon confit, marzipan, dried flowers, chamomile and mint come together effortlessly in the glass. Sémillon adds quite a bit of texture. Drink 2023-2030

  • Wine Advocate, April 2022, Score: 89-91

Aromas of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit and pastry cream introduce the 2021 Latour Martillac Blanc, a medium-bodied, bright and incisive wine that's performing well this year.

  • Matthew Jukes, April 2022, Score: 17.5

This is keen-edged wine with little oak adornments, and this means it has a purity and sharpness to the back of the palate that gives it energy and bounce. While I don’t doubt it will age well, the fruit is combative, exciting and feisty, and I feel that I would like to drink it before it gets to four years of age.

2021 Ch de Pez Cru Bourgeois St Estèphe - 6x75cl

  • 2025 - 2039
  • Château de Pez
  • 6x75cl
  • St estèphe, Red Bordeaux
  • En Primeur
Pricing
£126.00 In Bond
  • Goedhuis, April 2022, Score: 91-93

Made by the team from the great second growth Pichon Lalande headed up by Nicolas Glumineau who radiates excitement when he talks about this vineyard: “The potential is huge, the terroir is amazing, and it remains an unknown discovery”. 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this wine bursts with flavours of Morello cherry and boysenberry. Very layered, with ripe fruit sitting alongside a pleasingly granular tannic core. A touch of mocha and dark chocolate gives a sweetness to the finish. Great length and lovely.

  • Neal Martin, April 2022, Score: 89-91

The 2021 Château de Pez, from an estate under the aegis of Nicolas Glumineau, has an attractive nose of blackberry, pencil lead and light tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grippy tannins. There’s a healthy pinch of black pepper here, along with good weight and a structured, saline finish. Fine. Drink 2025 - 2038

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2022, Score: 89-91

The 2021 de Pez is a potent, dense rich wine that continues a move towards a more serious style here. Whether that works over the long term is, in my view, an open question. There is plenty of intensity in the dark fruit, spice, leather and gravel flavors, but the style feels a bit forced to me. The 2021 is projected to spend 19 months in oak, 50% new. The en primeur samples were shown from new oak barrels only, so it will be interesting to see how things ultimately shape up. Time will tell.

  • Wine Advocate, April 2022, Score: 90-92

An elegant, seamless wine, the 2021 de Pez exhibits aromas of cassis, sweet berries and nicely integrated new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate that's supple and fleshy, with good depth at the core and a nicely defined finish. It's a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot crafted by Nicolas Glumineau and his team from Pichon Lalande.

  • Wine Cellar Insider, April 2022, Score: 90-92

Earthy clay and red fruits with touches of spice and leafy herbs on the nose lead you to a medium-bodied, earthy, chewy, savory, edged, dark red berry filled wine with an olive accent in the round, fruity finish. The wine blends 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2024-2035.

  • Jane Anson, April 2022, Score: 92

Turmeric and sage spice, plenty of structure to cradle the bright, juice-filled raspberry, cassis, and blackberry fruits. This is a lovely wine. No chaptilisation.

  • Goedhuis, April 2022, Score: 88-90

The nose gives the impression of cool, crunchy blackcurrant and blood orange, with minerally hints of slate and touches of caramel from the toasty oak. The palate has juicy flesh to it, with nicely fresh acidity, mid-weight in body and true to the nose with a crunchy finish. Drink 2024-2033.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2022, Score: 88-90

The 2021 Moulin de Duhart is bright, punchy and flavorful. Rich and effusive, with lovely fruit presence, the 2021 Moulin is a real charmer. It's not the last word on complexity, but readers looking for a tasty Pauillac to drink with no fanfare will find plenty of joy. Drink 2024-2033

  • Wine Advocate, April 2022, Score: 87-88

Notes of cherries, sweet berries, loamy soil and cigar wrapper preface the 2021 Moulin de Duhart, a medium-bodied, bright and charming wine that's nicely balanced and harmonious. It's a well-made bottling that will drink well young.

  • Wine Cellar Insider, April 2022, Score: 87-89

Leafy herbs, tobacco leaf and red currants are found in the nose as well as on the soft, medium-bodied, palate. The finish is on the savory, herbal, olive and leafy side. Forward, and already easy to enjoy, you can drink this on release. Drink from 2023-2029.

  • Jane Anson, May 2022, Score: 87

Cloves, white pepper, bleuberry, attractive sappy, slightly austere. 1st year organic conversion, harvest September 22 through to October, 30hl/h yields.
