Goedhuis, November 2018
This great grand cru needs no introduction and Chantal Tortochot’s 2017 is an exceptional example. The smoky oak aromas are quite apparent in its youth, but these will integrate in time with its deep concentration of fruit, which currently commands the palate. This is a wine for the long term. It has masses of dark spiced berry fruits and a powerful yet poised tannic structure.

Jancis Robinson, January 2019, Score: 18
Lovely fragrance of sweet, tangy pure red fruit and the freshness of stems in moderation. Chewy, intense and fresh on the palate, a great balance in an embryonic wine with great promise. Drink 2023-2035

The Tortochot family have been respected vignerons in Gevrey Chambertin since the 19th century, but it is in recent times, under the stewardship of Chantal Tortochot, that key changes have taken place. Previously Chantal Tortochot’s father Gabriel sold most of his fruit to the famous Beaune négociant, Joseph Drouhin. Since taking over in 2001 Chantal has been carefully and surely building the domaine’s name and reputation around the world. In 2008 she made the next step by beginning conversion of her 12 hectares to fully organic practices, which was certifed in 2013. Since 2016 Chantal has incorporated up to 25% whole bunch fermented fruit, allowing the mineral salts imparted by the stems to give a vibrant freshness to her wines.Read less
Region
Chambertin
Gevrey Chambertin lies well to the north of the Cote de Nuits. It has no less than 9 grand cru vineyards and the most famous of these is Chambertin. Often considered the greatest of all red Burgundies for its complexity, power and intensity, Chambertin's fine wines are unsurprisingly rare and are priced accordingly. They also need years to develop to their full potential, but are undoubtedly worth the wait.
