The climat of Troesmes lies within the large premier cru site of Beauroy and has the reputation for making an elegant and refined style of Chablis. This 2016 is bright, lively, and zesty, with a salty cut of oyster shell accompanying the medium weight of the palate. Rich in flavour, and fresh in length.
The 2016 Chablis Troesmes 1er Cru has a pretty and well defined bouquet with scents of flint, white flowers and a touch of orange pith. The palate is well defined with a fine bead of acidity, discrete tropical notes such as white peach and passion fruit that do not obstruct the mineral core to flourish on the finish. Denis Pommier has made an excellent Chablis from one of its lesser-known Premier Crus.
Cool and appley on the nose. Quite a bit of fruit – I'm not sure I would guess Chablis blind. Quite long and satisfying but pretty precocious. Scored as a wine not a Chablis. Drink 2018-2024
Dénis and Isabelle Pommier created this charming estate in 1990 after inheriting several small parcels from Dénis’s grandfather, and adding further plots purchased from his aunt. They now have 18 hectares from which they produce various cuvées including two premiers crus: Côte de Lechet and Troésmes, which is sub-climat of the larger and more widely known cru, Beauroy. The Pommiers like to pick a little later than their neighbours, producing Chablis that has ripeness and juiciness as well as the tingling mineral tension typical of this cool climate. Hard work in the vineyards continually drives quality at this estate. This is place to go for forward, generous, and early drinking Chablis.
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
