A combination of their two premiers crus, Les Grèves and Clos du Roi, and the blend works magnificently! Both vineyards are on the northerly side of the appellation, creating a wine with perfumed bramble fruit characteristics. Quite a direct, intense style, with a drive of energy. This finishes with lovely sweet scented flavours. Very fine.
A blend of two-thirds Clos du Roi and one-third Grèves, which are normally bottled separately but forced to cohabit here because of the frost, the 2016 Beaune 1er Cru has a very pure bouquet with red cherries, raspberry preserve and orange blossom aromas, underneath which lies tangible mineralité. The new oak here (30%) is well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, darker fruit than the Savigny-lès-Beaune with more wood tannins toward the finish at the moment. Give this 2 or 3 years to fully integrated once in bottle. Drink 2020-2032
Light, slightly medicinal nose. Some oak evident on the palate. Decidedly embryonic. Rather rough tough tannins and only light fruit. Drink 2024-2032
The Tollots’ two Beaune premier crus, Grèves and Clos du Roi, were blended this year. A sweet bouquet of red berry fruit, summer truffle and rich soil precedes a full-bodied, velvety palate with a good core of cool fruit, bright acids and good persistence on the finish. Drinking Window 2024 - 2040
Good dark red. Inviting perfume of black cherry, licorice and violet. Supple, juicy wine with a surprisingly round texture to its flavors of cherry, spices, menthol and flowers. There's nothing hard about this wine, which Nathalie Tollot said does not include any fruit from the second set of buds. Finishes with pliant tannins.
The wines of Tollot-Beaut are some of the best we taste every vintage. Uncomplicated, pure and fresh, they epitomize everything that we love about wines from the Côte de Beaune. In addition, their fleshiness and approachability makes them perfect for cynics who claim that Burgundy is not their cup of tea. The 22-hectare domaine has been family-owned for years. Today, the young, friendly and exceptionally bright Nathalie Tollot manages the domaine with her cousins. The wines are vinified fairly traditionally. About 40% of the crop is de-stemmed, though this varies depending on vintage. The wines are fermented in open-top wooden vats before being aged in oak barrels that are 10-50% new. Very lightly fined and filtered before bottling, the resulting wines are often opulent with noticeable density, always clean and superbly pure. Just wonderful Burgundy.
The viticultural capital of Burgundy, Beaune was the headquarters to the Duchy in the 13th century and is now home to many winemakers and négociants. The appellation of Beaune includes both reds and white wines, though the quantity of red is significantly greater. The soils are predominantly sandier than either those to the north in Aloxe Corton or those to the south in Volnay or Pommard, producing wines that are supple and early drinking in nature. Similar to other surrounding Côte de Beaune appellations, there are no grand crus, but it does offer 42 premier cru sites, some of which are exceptional. These include Les Grèves, Les Teurons and Les Vignes Franches.
