A discreet application of wood sets off ripe and overtly spicy cassis, violet and Asian-style tea aromas. There is both good richness and energy present on to the seductively textured middle weight flavors that possess fine depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This is a lovely Vosne villages that should be approachable young if desired. Outstanding. Drink 2022+
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Village is the same blend of three blocks that includes the bottom part of Les Brûlées. Everything is de-stemmed and underwent a long cuvaison of 23 days. It has a very attractive bouquet with raspberry preserve, crushed rose petals and a light wet limestone scent. The palate is medium-bodied with silky black cherry and strawberry, slightly confit-like, with decent length if needing just a touch more nervosité to come through. This is a slight improvement over the 2014 last year and should offer several years of drinking pleasure. Drink Date 2018 - 2025
Domaine d'Eugénie was born following the acquisition of René Engel estate by François Pinault, alsoowner of Château Latour in Pauillac during the summer 2006. The estate is situated in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of La Côte de Nuits between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey Chambertin. This village is considered to be the treasure of big wines of Burgundy. The vineyard is about 6.5 hectares and extends onto the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot et Flagey-Echezeaux. The estate is managed by Frédéric Engerer who is the President at Château Latour in Pauillac.
The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
