The fertile lower slopes of the Grands Liards (Liard meaning deposit) always produce a rounded and generous style of Savigny. This is a delightful example, shining purple in colour, with sweet fleshy wild strawberry flavours and subtle grainy tannins.
An attractively fresh nose is composed by notes of herbal tea, dried flowers, spice and liqueur-like dark cherry aromas. There is both fine detail and a lovely sense of energy to the delicious and appealingly textured medium weight flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a lingering and mildly austere finish. This should reward 5 to 8 years of cellaring but could be enjoyed young too. Drink 2021+
Domaine Bize is one of the most famous names in the Côte de Beaune and today, whilst continuing under the name of his father, the estate is run by his charmingly articulate son Patrick. Patrick claims his education in vine growing and wine making was not done at wine school but in the cellars of his father's friends whose names read like a who's who of wine; Henri Jayer, the Marquisd'Angerville, Aubert de Villaine of Romanée-Conti and so the list goes on... It is therefore nosurprise that in Patrick's wines one scents passion rather than the science of wine making.
