Burghound, January 2017, Score: 92-95
A restrained but attractively fresh, cool and airy nose combines notes of spice with those of various floral nuances and dark cherry liqueur. The rich, powerful, full-bodied and impressively scaled flavors brim with dry extract that coats the palate and again buffers the decidedly firm tannins on the vibrant and hugely long finish. This needs to develop more depth but the underlying material is certainly present such that it should do that if given time. (92-95)/2027+

The 2012 release put him firmly on the map, and since then he has met the challenges of each subsequent vintage with aplomb, producing wines of disarming beauty and grace. The most recent release, his 2016s, mark a high point in the canon, where glossy fruit is perfectly paired with luxurious but refined oak (he uses 100% new French oak, in barrels custom made for each cuvée by the cooper Chassin).Read less

Chambertin Clos de Bèze
Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
